The BBC show Death Valley is a comedy-crime drama that follows the unlikely crime-solving partnership between a curmudgeonly retired actor, John Chapel (Timothy Spall), and an eager young detective sergeant, Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth), in South Wales. 

The costume design of the show seeks to mirror the balance in their relationship, there is always a yin and yang element present in their styling, something that is more present in one and mirrored to a smaller degree in the other, a shared overlap in colour palette that sees them to always be complimentary and contrasting. 

Key cast looks have been very popular with audiences and the public, having been copied and reproduced (unlicenced) by high street brands and online sellers.
